Don’t think about trying CrossFit, just do it! Doesn’t matter what kind of shape you’re in or what limitations you have. Everything can be scaled to fit your needs and your goals, whether that’s pulling yourself over some rings or keeping up with your kids. It is hard for sure. It’s also fun and so empowering. Plus those post-workout endorphins will make you forget the pain anyway :)
The unique thing about CrossFit is you’re never doing it alone. I’ve been to several CrossFit gyms and while the community aspect is always there, what Dave and Lindsey have created at CFFM is truly the best of the best. We have people of all ages, backgrounds, experience levels, etc., but once you walk through that door, we become more similar than we are different. We all have strengths and weaknesses, things we’re afraid of, goals we want to accomplish. You won’t be judged because we’ve all been there, and are all still there—learning and growing and suffering through one workout at a time.
And I don’t want to talk myself out of a job, but you also might save some money on therapy if you stick with it!
I try to attend classes at the same consistent time. Exercising with the same group of people in every class helps me stay committed and focused. The social interaction at CrossFit also boosts my motivation. The variety in programming is another reason that keeps me from getting bored. I particularly enjoy the mental aspect of CrossFit, where I am fully engaged in the workout, and distractions fade away.
I started years ago to get in shape and because I loved learning the lifts. I also love the competitive aspect of CrossFit whether you are competing with others or yourself, it makes it fun. The workouts get you into the gym but the coaches and the community are why you stay and what make you consistent. You learn and get better as you practice (just like any other sport or skill) so don’t let that intimidate you!
The coaches are a collection of the most effective humans on Earth. The best. Come and talk with Dave and Lindsey Nichols or any coach. Even if you don’t sign up, you will gain a person who is on your side and wants you to be better.
I decided to start CFFM in the summer of 2016 because my daughter, Sam, was attending CFFM as part of her fitness program as an athlete at Flower Mound High School. I started tagging along and soon realized that it was fun daddy/daughter activity. My advice to a person interested in CF would be to give it a try and make a personal commitment to a stay with it for a couple months. The workouts are challenging, that is why it works. After a little time, you will notice an improvement in your fitness level. Your classmates will become your friends, They will encourage you and celebrate your achievements.
Give CrossFit a try! Don’t wait until a better time, there’s never a right time to get started. Take a chance, and embrace the ‘suck’, because we all know when you’re getting started it’s not ‘fun’ and it’s hard but it turns out to be so worth it!! When I moved to TX in 2015 I didn’t know anyone and it was hard. I was ready to move back home(Nebraska) to what was familiar and what I knew. I decided to start CrossFit at this gym, and it ended up saving me. I met so many great people, and they became staples in my life. Dave and Lindsey are one of a kind – and I ‘m not just saying that. This gym is different than any other gym I’ve ever been to. We are all family, and it is by far my most favorite time of every day!
The advice I would give to someone interested in CrossFit is just to give it a shot. We’re not a gym full of Games athletes. For the most part we’re regular people that want to be fit and that are friends. Who doesn’t want that? The coaches will scale anything to accommodate where you’re at, and you’ll find a group of people that are encouraging and build you up. Dave and Lindsey have created a place where everyone is welcome and you’re set up to succeed.
My favorite thing about CrossFit Flower Mound are the people. Everyone is so supportive and the coaches are really passionate about helping us discover strengths we never knew we had.
